This may be coincidental, but in the scene where Gurney Halleck and Paul reunite on a battlefield of Arrakis, Paul shouts "Gurney-man!" instead of "Gurney". The character "Gurnemanz" in Wagner's opera "Parsifal" is one of the primary knights of the Holy Grail. The character Gurnemanz is based on the character "Gornemant" in Chrétien de Troyes' "Perceval, the Story of the Grail". Gornemant was, as "Gurney-man", the mentor of the story's main character.
