As the Enterprise is being drawn into the planet's atmosphere, Captain Kirk directs the crew to abandon ship. He directs the bridge crew to "Get in your Kelvin Pods". In Star Trek (2009), George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth) was stationed and perished aboard the U.S.S. Kelvin (NCC-0514).
