When Harry asks about the ghosts of deceased people that he saw during his duel with Voldemort, Dumbledore only mentions the term "Priori Incantatem", but doesn't elaborate on it. In the book, Dumbledore explains that the Priori Incantatem ('previous spell') effect can spontaneously occur when 'brother wands' that have a core from the same creature (like Harry's and Voldemort's) get locked together. If one is able to overpower the other, the latter wand is forced to regurgitate echoes of the last spells that it cast; this includes sentient ghost echoes of people killed by the Killing Curse. These echoes only last briefly, hence Dumbledore's comment in the film, "No spell can reawaken the dead, Harry".
