Per usual for the 1970s and 80's, most of the films detectives and plain clothes cops are armed with shorter barreled Colt and S&W revolvers. S&W made many variations of their 36 Chief Special and Colt had a slightly larger handgun that held 6 instead of 5 shots such as the Cobra, and Detective Special.
