Right before she has her non-traditional fetus removed with a C-Section, Shaw pretends to be doped on drugs and tricks Ford and another crew member into thinking she is unconscious. Before Shaw attacks them and goes to get the fetus removed in the Med-Pod, Ford says 'prepare her'. More than likely, David wanted to remove the fetus from Shaw's body to examine the creature inside of her.
