Despite Dustin Hoffman receiving top billing Robin Williams has a substantial amount of more screen time than his co-star and the story has far more of an emphasis on him than that of Hook. Ultimately it was decided Hoffman should take top billing because he was playing the character the movie got its name from. Reversely, in Dustin Hoffman's first major film The Graduate (1967) he received second billing while his co-star Anne Bancroft received top billing even though Hoffman was playing the titular character and had far more screen time than Bancroft did.
