Christopher Reeve was not happy throughout the making of this film due to the constant meddling of Menahem Golan, who at every turn tried to cut corners on the film's budget and where the film would be shot. Reeve and director Jerry Schatzberg wanted to shoot it completely on actual New York locations. Golan and Yoram Globus in their cost cutting insisted on shooting it in Canada.
