While picking up loose trash outside his home in Culver City, Don Bluth picked up a discarded lamp and imagined a mouse using it as an elevator or diving bell. The lamp was used as a model for the elevator Mrs. Brisby, Mr. Ages and Justin ride in. At a press event for the movie the lamp was put on a museum display with other props used for the movie.
