To the goat-herders that stumbled upon the team, the film inverts Luttrell's book assertion that a vote WAS taken as to their fate - i. e conversely as to team leader Michael Murphy states in the film version, that it is "not a vote": but thus - (rightly) - following standard military protocol and rules of engagement, which (of course) strictly forbid unarmed non-combatant civilians harm. N.B. Further, his father (of deceased team leader Murphy) has averred his son would never have considered executing unarmed civilians, let alone putting such a grave decision up for a vote.
