Marie Antoinette is credited for both pressuring her husband to support the rebellious Thirteen Colonies in the American Revolutionary War, and for securing favorable relations with Austria and Russia during the War. The depth of her political understanding of the situation has been disputed, but she may have seen the War as a way to get revenge for the French territorial losses in the Seven Years' War (1756-1763).
