To design the ghosts and other supernatural creatures for this movie, director Jason Reitman and the production crew reviewed the designs for the ones from Ghostbusters (Acchiappafantasmi) (1984). This review had a part in the creation of Muncher, a ghost similar to Slimer, who had been seen in the previous movies and the animated TV series The Real Ghostbusters - I veri acchiappafantasmi (1986). Jason told IGN that "Something happened to Slimer over the years that people started thinking of him as the dalmatian of the firehouse. The original Slimer was an angry dude and very scary and we wanted to get back to that."
