Plans were made to adapt the other three books in the series, with director Stefen Fangmeier intending to film the second and third movie back-to-back. After negative reviews by both audience and critics, any ideas for sequels were dropped. The film underperformed but made a modest amount ($250 million on $100 million budget), enough for Fox to consider a second film, but the backlash by fans and critics was bad enough for sequel plans to be abandoned.
