Despite playing adversaries in the film, Rutger Hauer described Morgan Freeman as one of his heroes, having become a huge fan of Freeman's acting talent since seeing Le ali della libertà (1994). Hauer described Freeman in his autobiography as "Getting to work with someone like Morgan is a form of excitement...I found Morgan so warm and comfortable and so precise in the way he almost disappeared and faded into his role. From what I've seen, the best actors are the easiest to work with."
