Loki in his illusion of Odin at the end of the movie declines to take Mjolnir from Thor. In the first movie, Loki cannot pick up Mjolnir as he is not "worthy." If he were to try to take back Mjolnir it would be a dead giveaway that he wasn't really Odin, so he lets Thor keep it.
