To transform actors into an army of orcs requires an army of artists. Between 35 and 40 on-set makeup artists worked on 'Bright' over the course of the shoot. But one makeup artist/orc duo merits special mention: Joel Edgerton would end up spending an incredible fifty-five days in his Jakoby prosthetics applied by Christopher Nelson. "It was a grueling shoot, pretty much all night shoots in some of the toughest neighborhoods in Los Angeles," remembered Nelson. "My job was to try and make it as easy as possible for the makeup artists involved. And there were so many amazing artists who helped out on set, from Greg Cannom to Ed French and Craig Reardon, and so many more. Academy Award-winning veterans all the way to incredibly talented newer artists. It was a joy to have each one of them on the makeup team." In the end, LAPD's finest, Ward and Jakoby, would complete their hero's journey holding their heads high. In a letter to shareholders, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings would say, "In its first month, 'Bright' would become one of our most viewed original titles ever." Because of this, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Netflix has already decided it will be making a sequel to 'Bright,' with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton reprising their roles as officers Ward and Jakoby, and with David Ayer handling the writing and directing duties. It will be fun to see if Netflix can make magic happen twice.
