Incorrectly seen as a mistake Sabian, just before he shoots Danny, says "I think you're right: Shane dies at the end." In their earlier argument about Shane, Sabian had maintained that he died and Danny thought he lived. This was intentional by Sabian to reaffirm that he believes Roman and drop a hint at what was happening next. A gut shot that seemed lethal but is actually survivable so Roman and Sabian can deceive and out the antagonists.
