Toward the end of the movie, Mountbatten's chief of staff, Ismay, takes a secret map out of a drawer and says India's new borders had already been drawn by Winston Churchill as a protection from the Soviet Union. The origin of this theory lies in a book by Narendra Singh Sarila, a former member of Mountbatten's staff. It's considered a conspiracy theory, and a way to deflect Mountbatten's responsibility from the 1947 bloodshed.
