Dana Carvey, while he did co-write and star in this film, did not have as much creative control as he would've liked. His star power had greatly faded between Wayne's World 2 (1993) and this, and he was working with Happy Madison, a company that has enormous power over him. They have a different sensibility in humor than Dana, which didn't reveal itself until they were halfway through filming. At one point, Dana said, "there's 80 percent of things in (the movie) that I don't get".
