Disney's decision to expand the Star Wars film franchise with Rogue One and making it the first installment of a anthology series of spin-off movies was influenced by the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Marvel Studios was reorganized by Disney in August 2015. The 2nd film in the anthology series Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) was released in 2018.
