When director Gary Sherman was approached by MGM to do this film, he initially refused but wound up doing it as a favor to his mentors at MGM. He had three stipulations: 1. It had to be filmed in Chicago. 2. It had to be filmed at the John Hancock Center. 3. All the special effects had to be practical.
