After the premiere of Criminal Intent (2001), creator/producer Dick Wolf planned a crossover between the original Law & Order - I due volti della giustizia (1990) and the spin-offs Law & Order: Unità Speciale (1999) and Criminal Intent (2001), with the main characters of the three series working together to investigate a possible terrorist attack on New York City. However, the idea was abandoned after the 9/11 attacks to avoid controversy.
