In September 2021, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Babadook (2014) filmmaker Jennifer Kent would write and direct an episode starring the film's lead Essie Davis. The season would consist of seven other episodes of independent stories to be directed individually by A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)'s director Ana Lily Amirpour, Mandy (2018)'s Panos Cosmatos, Cappuccetto rosso sangue (2011)'s Catherine Hardwicke, The Empty Man (2020)'s David Prior, Cube - Il cubo (1997)'s Vincenzo Natali, The Vigil (2019)'s Keith Thomas and Guillermo Navarro, director of episodes in Hannibal (2013), Sleepy Hollow (2013) and Damien (2016). Writers of teleplays in the series include: The Strain (2014)'s script Regina Corrado, Curve: Insidia mortale (2015)'s Lee Patterson, Al nuovo gusto di ciliegia (2021)'s Haley Z. Boston, Origin (2018)'s Mika Watkins and Mandy (2018)'s Aaron Stewart-Ahn.
