Along with "Hamlet" Lion King is more than a little similar to Bambi (1942). Both begin and end with a "prince" birth, both loses a parent while very young, both flims have all animals characters (humans exist in Bambi but are never shown), in both there's a fight between the prince and rival and have a fire during and in Bambi's case after the battle. Finally both of the princes wound up with mates they knew as children.
