According to the old Star Wars Legends / Expanded Universe (a collection of novels, comic books and videogames pre-dating Disney's acquisition of Star Wars), Mandalorian culture takes fatherhood very, very seriously. The father, not the mother, is supposed to play the prominent role in raising a son, and those who have no natural children are strongly encouraged to adopt "foundlings". In fact, being called an uncaring father is one of the biggest offenses for a Mandalorian, comparable to being called a traitor or a coward. This may contribute to explain the strong bond between the protagonist and the Child and also the other Mandalorians supporting Din Djarin's protection of the Child.
