The placard on the desk identifies the news anchor as H. Wells. In 1904, H. G. Wells' novel Food of the Gods was released. The story is about an experimental substance that grows chickens to six times their normal size. This substance ends up entering the local food chain and soon other animals, such as rats and wasps, are growing to enormous proportions. It is then consumed by local children, who grow to forty feet tall. Bert I. Gordon, director of The Amazing Colossal Man, adapted this novel twice: first as Village of the Giants in 1965 and second as The Food of the Gods in 1976.
