One of the film's main themes is Vakama learning to be confident and trust his future-foretelling visions, which some of his teammates think are evidence that Vakama is insane, or in their words, "cross-wired". Many years after the movie had come out, the Bionicle writers explained that Vakama was indeed cross-wired. Thanks to a glitch in his brain, he accidentally kept receiving visions of potential futures, which were actually signals coming from the Great Spirit Mata Nui's core processor. Some fans think this greatly undermined the film's message.
