In season three, episode 10, "Three's a Crowd, Six Is a Freak Show", Grace tells a story about a person she knows who had a tumor, and when they removed and dissected the tumor they found "mini hair and mini teeth" inside. The phenomenon she is describing is called a "teratoma". This is when during cell division and tissue formation early on in the pregnancy, a virus infects the spine of the embryo where stem cells are, and the body starts creating and dividing cells of random body parts which wind up in these pockets and tumors, called "teratomas". People have been known to find fetal eyes, brain cells, rows of teeth, and other parts in these teratomas.
