The movie originally garnered an ''X'' rating from the MPAA (Motion Picture Association Of America) but was re-classified with an '"R'' rating after cuts were made. The S&M sequence was re-dubbed and other minor deletions made making the movie a bit shorter overall. As such, the film was now able to be exhibited in mainstream cinemas . This re-cutting of the picture was catalyzed by the fact that couples were going to see the film in adult theaters and as such it was deduced that there was market for the movie in the mainstream exhibition sector. As such, the picture's box-office grosses ballooned and the film from a US $62,000 budget took over a million dollars at the American box-office.
