Another iconic character is Piter de Vries, the sadistic Mentat who serves the Baron. Donald Mowat had previously worked with David Dastmalchian and considered him an old friend. During initial discussions, Dastmalchian was 100% prepared to shave his head for the role, but a last minute consideration caused some uncertainty. "He called me one day and said, 'Don, I've just been cast in something. And I don't know what to do. I just can't cut my hair. I've got to do this thing.' so he confided in me, and I said we have to talk to Denis." They discussed the situation with Villeneuve and consulted with Love Larson. They determined the look could be achieved with a bald cap. Mowat then made it his mission to call Stephen Prouty of Fusion FX in LA and get Dastmalchian to him as soon as possible. "I sent him over twice and he did a custom silicone cap for us. Steve also very graciously did a test for us in LA months before David was scheduled to come to Budapest to work." Once on set, Rocky Faulkner applied the cap.
