"I Dream of Jeannie" (about a man living with a genie) was part of a trend in the 1960s of "fantasy sitcoms", which included "Bewitched" (about a man married to a witch), "My Favorite Martian" (about a man living with a Martian), "Mister Ed" (about a man living with a talking horse), "My Mother the Car" (about a man living with a talking automobile), "The Munsters" (about a household of likable monsters), and "The Addams Family" (a family of creepy, spooky characters). These were followed by "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1968) and "The Nanny and the Professor" (1970).
