Will Forte revealed on an interview given shortly after the show's cancellation that if a season 5 would have happened following the discovery of the underground community, that the show's main group would have slowly mingled with the new people until both groups were comfortable with each other. And then, keeping in line with the show's bleak humor, the new people would have died because they would catch the virus, unlike our leads who are immune.
