The story takes place the last week of April and the first week of May, 1956, as evidenced by the Las Vegas hotel billboard announcing the performance of Elvis Presley. Presley's first appearance in Las Vegas, at the New Frontier Hotel, ran from 23 April to 6 May 1956. A few weeks later he began filming his first movie, "Love Me Tender," for "Paramount." The studio made it a point of advertising its new star in the "Hollywood or Bust" Las Vegas establishing shots.
