Among Hollywood insiders, the show was known as "Jesus of Malibu". According to Brandon Tartikoff's autobiography, The Last Great Ride, "Moses of Malibu" is more accurate because Michael Landon was Jewish on his father's side. Unlike Jesus, he would not qualify as Jewish, as his mother was an Irish American Catholic.
