William Shatner was wearing a corset during production of this film, the lines of which were often visible through his uniform. From Star Trek II - L'ira di Khan (1982) onward, the form-fitting uniforms seen in this film were dropped in favor of the uniforms with the red tunic (which were better at hiding the cast's "middle-age spread").
