Pat Benatar, Olivia Newton-John, Madonna, Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, Janet Jackson, Terri Nunn, Kim Carnes and Dolly Parton were considered for the role of Rachel Marron. Kevin Costner, who was also producer on the film, reportedly denied Madonna an audition because she had made a gag joke at his expense in A letto con Madonna (1991).
