A running theme throughout the film has one character claiming a name, or title. Only to have a second character claim to be something greater.When Balian is attacked by an Arab horseman, Balian demands he fight fairly. "Why should he? He is a knight!" the claim is made. Balian retorts, "And I am the Baron of Ibelin!"Reynald shouting, "I am Reynald de Chatillon!" Only for the King to remind him, "I am Jerusalem."Balian surrenders Jerusalem and worries that Saladin will kill everyone in the city in retaliation for what the Christians did when they took the city before. "I am not THOSE Men. I am Salahudin."At the end Balian says, "I am the blacksmith." King Richard, "And I am the King of England."
