James Roday Rodriguez said in an interview that he auditioned for the role of Aaron Stampler but the casting director felt that he was better suited for the role of Alex instead because they were seeking someone Caucasian to play Aaron. However, he did not get that part either because he was told that he did not look Latino enough for that part. This, along with other similar auditions, later led to him adopting the stage name of James Roday. He eventually began using his full legal name professionally in 2020.
