Two different actors portray the same developing character in Gerardo de Leon 's film adaptations of Jose Rizal's two novels. Eddie del Mar plays the optimistic reformist, Ibarra in Noli me tángere (1961) while Pancho Magalona plays, the cynical filibuster, Simoun in El filibusterismo (1962).
