Producer Tony Ginnane has said of this movie's financing: ''It seemed to me an opportunity to take advantage of what Hemdale was doing through an associate company: raise money in the UK under the Capital Allowances scheme, and match it to non-recourse lending and use the tax exempt status of the SAFC [South Australian Film Corporation], as a government body, to effectively shelter the money that was coming in. So on that basis we managed to put 'The Survivor' together for about $1.2 million - the most expensive film we'd done up to that time. The SAFC was in for $350,000, the English tax group for about the same, Pact Productions for about the same, GU gave us an advance and we got a TV sale. The English investors got a complete write-off on the whole movie, and so did the Australian investors: a nice example of double-dipping.''
