The character Chronos is based on the Greek personification of time with the same name. This explains why the "Space Jam" Chronos has time-related powers. Also, the Greek Chronos is often depicted as an old man with a long gray beard. This is alluded to in the film when Granny uses the robot's time powers against him and Chronos morphs into a rusty, old robot with a gray beard.
