The first appearance of Peter Falk as Columbo occurred in the 1968 TV movie Prescrizione assassinio (1968), which was a TV adaptation of a 1962 stage play by Richard Levinson and William Link. The film depicts Columbo as a neatly dressed, no-nonsense detective although Falk's own idiosyncratic traits are very present. The film is the only Falk representation of Columbo where he carries his trademark raincoat more than wearing it, wears Hush Puppy shoes, and does not drive his iconic 1959 Peugeot 403.
