Gray shares several similarities to Tim Murphy from Jurassic Park (1993); the hyperactive son of divorcing parents, the younger of two siblings, intelligent for his age, in addition to being obsessed with dinosaurs. Similar also with regards to how interacting with Tim caused Dr. Alan Grant to open up more emotionally through their efforts to survive amongst the dinosaurs, Gray's experiences with Zach in this movie strengthens the bond between the two brothers.
