It has been confirmed that the primary inspiration for this movie (in terms of Batman media) are the comic books 'The Long Halloween', 'Ego', and 'Year Two'. However, a slight amount of inspiration may have been taken also from one of the many Batman video games, specifically the Telltale Games series about Batman, which focuses heavily on Batman's evolution from a violent vigilante to a hero; Alfred keeping secrets from Bruce about the Wayne Family's various involvements with the Falcone Crime Family; Batman's exceptional detective skills; his relationship with Selina/Catwoman; and the Penguin being a major character referred to as Oz (though in the Batman Telltale Games, Oswald Cobblepott is an old childhood friend of Bruce's who has a normal body physique and who has lost his family's fortune due to bad investments and is turning steadily to a life of crime whereas in The Batman he is a high-ranking member of the Falcone family).
