The first appearance of Dr. James Marcus (Mark Simpson) in the film series. Dr. Marcus is a character taken from the games: he is one of the discoverers of the T-Virus who was killed by Albert Wesker in Biohazard Ø (2002), but most of the similarities end there. The Dr. Marcus from the game was a much older American scientist with no children, and one of the founders of Umbrella. His motives for inventing the T-Virus were simple vanity and scientific curiosity, and he ruthlessly sacrificed test subjects along the way to obtain his goals. He was finally killed on the orders of co-founder Ozwell Spencer (a character not in the movies) when he no longer served Umbrella's interests, but was resurrected as an enhanced being due to his own T-Virus. In the movie, it was Dr. Isaacs who gave the order, but this character never appeared in the games.
