Julie Kavner was the second choice for Mama Boucher in case the first choice Kathy Bates declined the role. When Bates ultimately accepted it, director Frank Coraci promised Kavner a role in one of his future movies with Adam Sandler. Kavner went on to play Sandler's mother in the Coraci-directed Cambia la tua vita con un click (2006) in which Henry Winkler who plays Coach Klein in this movie plays Sandler's father.
