Aaron tells Marta that in order for the army recruiter to make his quota, he added 12 points to Aaron's IQ score. As the minimum IQ for serving in the army is 85, this means that before he entered the Blackbriar program Aaron's IQ was only 73. This is considered to be "borderline impaired." An IQ of 100 is considered to be average. As demonstrated in the flashback sequence, a person with this IQ will face challenges with abstract thought, with extrapolating on inferences, with making decisions, and be socially awkward.
