Luthor's collection of wigs was perhaps inspired by Dr. Mabuse's similar collection in Fritz Lang's Il dottor Mabuse (1922). Like Luthor, Mabuse was also a diabolical mastermind. He is considered to be one of the earliest cinematic supervillains.
