Walter Koenig wrote an outline in which the Enterprise crew, except Spock, are forced to retire. Spock and his new crew are captured by a worm-like race of aliens and the original crew must reunite to rescue them. In the end, most of the original crew except McCoy and Spock die. Koenig's idea was rejected by Paramount Studios.
