In the early seasons, several of the Air Force extras seen at NASA are wearing tan, short-sleeved uniforms while Nelson, Bellows, and other principle characters wear blue uniforms. These were summer service dress uniforms for officers, nicknamed "silver-tans," and were introduced in the early 1960s. This is appropriate given the warm climate of Florida. Tan short-sleeve cotton shirts and trousers for males continued in use until the early 1970s when it was phased out in favor of the blue uniform.
