Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist to the Donald Trump administration, was a producer on this film. In 2018, Sean Penn made an appearance on Conan where he discussed Bannon's involvement with the film, stating that he did not enjoy working with Bannon, calling him a "crook", and stating sarcastically that "he exerted the same level of charm he does today." He also stated that he didn't even realize it was the same Steve Bannon for a while, saying "I don't think you can age like that without hating people."
